About Wright Patterson AFB

The Dayton area is a hub for manufacturing as well as research and development. Ohio itself is uniquely positioned in that the borders of the state are within 500 miles of approximately 60% of the United States' population. While there has been a significant decline in US manufacturing, the area has quickly become home to insurance, healthcare and government sectors. As the largest area employer, the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is one of the reasons why these other industries have become so significant in the community.

Dayton's school system operates 34 public schools, 35 private schools and 33 charter schools. The area is culturally rich with a performing arts center, a philharmonic, a ballet and several theaters. Additionally, the city has an archaeological park, Audubon center, water park and a discovery center that includes a natural history museum, planetarium observatory and animal zoo all rolled into one.
