About White Sands Missile Range

The White Sands Proving Grounds, established in 1945, and later named White Sands Missile Range (WSMR),  is located 40 miles northeast of Las Cruces, beyond the majestic Organ Mountains.   At WSMR you can trace the origins of missile and space activity, where the atomic age began.    The Museum, open year-round, has a Gift Shop and Missile Park, displaying a variety of missiles and rockets tested at White Sands.  The Missile Range's Historical Foundation provides voluntary support and raises money for the WSMR Museum, to collect, catalogue, preserve, display and maintain the history of White Sands Missile Range.
