About Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam

Most Americans remember Pearl Harbor first for its historic significance: the location of the infamous attack on December 7, 1941 resulting in the loss of life of over 2,000 U.S. military personnel.  The USS Arizona Memorial, the USS Oklahoma Memorial, the USS Utah Memorial, and several historic Battleship Row mooring quays and CPO bungalows all remain as part of the recently dedicated WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument.

Today, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH) is the combination of two important Hawaii bases supporting both Air Force and Navy missions.  JBPHH is home to Naval Base Pearl Harbor, Naval Shipyard / Intermediate Maintenance Facility, Fleet and Industrial Supply Center, Naval Medical & Dental Clinics and the 15th Air Base Wing.

Housing on base includes Family Housing, Unaccompanied Personnel Housing and Navy Gateway Inns and Suites.  Nearby civilian off base housing includes the neighborhoods of Aiea, Ewa Beach, Honolulu, Kapolei, Makakilo, Mililani, Pearl City and Wahiawa.

According to the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce:
"Hawaii's defense and tourism industries are the leading business revenue generators in Hawaii's economy. Annual defense expenditures account for generating $12.2 billion into Hawaii's economy annually.  Defense procurement contracts awarded to Hawaii businesses more than doubled from $1.0 billion in the mid-1990s to $2.3 billion in 2009."
