About Joint Base Charleston

Joint Base Charleston, located near historic Charleston, South Carolina was established in October 2010 as a merger of the Charleston Air Force Base in North Charleston, SC and the Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek, SC.  The merger came about as a result of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC).  The primary mission of Joint Base Charleston is to provide worldwide strategic support to US troops in the form of equipment, cargo and medical supplies via airlift services and naval support activity and training.

There are more than 20,000 active duty military, civilian employees, contractors and reservists working at Joint Base Charleston.  This population generates a significant economic impact of more than $80 million dollars which is poured directly into the local Charleston Metro (Tri-County) economy.
