About Fort Drum

Fort Drum is the largest Army installation in the Northeast and is proud to be the home of the 10th Mountain Division since 1984. Currently there are approximately 19,500 active military and Fort Drum is the largest employer in northern New York.  This entire area is a great recreational area for all seasons. 70 miles north of Syracuse and 30 miles south of the Canadian border, Watertown enjoys the picturesque Adirondacks as a backdrop. As the name might suggest, Watertown has The 1,000 Islands and Lake Ontario in its midst. Rafting, boating, fishing, camping, and hiking are all within easy reach. The area has a quaint, rural atmosphere with a population hovering around 27,000.
The Watertown school district has one high school, two middle schools and five elementary schools. The school system boasts a fine arts program which includes music, theater/drama and art. Additionally, the district has a rich athletic program.
