About Captain James A Lovell Federal Health Care Center

The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is adjacent to the base and is operated under the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and the U.S. Department of Defense.  The facility is a first-of-its-kind partnership between these to agencies, integrating all medical care into a fully integrated federal health care facility with a single combined VA and Navy mission.
According to the 2010 Census, the median household income in Lake County was $77,492.  North Chicago is strategically located on the shores of Lake Michigan at the midpoint of the Chicago-Milwaukee Corridor.  Lake County has long been recognized as a premier business location for corporate headquarter facilities, hi-tech manufacturing firms and distribution and warehouse facilities.

Lake County is well known for its excellent educational resources and boasts one of the best public school systems in the state, with 8 high schools placing in the Top 50 High schools of Illinois.  Lake County has six undergraduate colleges and / or universities, and three graduate level schools. Rosalind Franklin University of Health Sciences is adjacent to the base. We encourage you to study the school report cards for the schools in and around North Chicago.
Entertainment, dining opportunities, as well as natural amenities are plentiful in Lake County.  Shopping is close by and includes Westfield Hawthorne Mall in Vernon Hills and the regional shopping mega-mall, Gurnee Mills.  Six Flags Great America is minutes away along with Hurricane Harbor.  The Lake County Forest Preserve District offers over 25,000 acres of forest preserves for hiking, biking and fishing, as well as the beautiful Chain O'Lakes State Park and the Illinois Beach State Park.
There are a myriad of housing opportunities available within a short commute of the base.  Prices vary greatly from one community to the next, but the options are almost endless.  The housing market has recovered and seems to be returning to normal.  Single family home dominate the market, but there are also many apartment complexes mixed in around the county.  With interest rates still hovering near historic lows and prices beginning to appreciate, many are finding it to be perfect time to buy.
