About Camp Lejeune

Jacksonville, NC is home to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, whose mission is to maintain combat-ready units for expeditionary deployment.  The coastal base, which began construction in 1941, has over 14 miles of beaches.  Currently, the base and surrounding area is home to an active duty, dependent, retiree, and civilian population of approximately 170,000.

Jacksonville, NC is approximately 45-50 minutes to the north of the port city of Wilmington, NC.   A number of relocating military families choose to live away from base in surrounding communities.  Take a look at Hubert, Swansboro, Cape Carteret  and Emerald Isle, just a short commute away!

The climate is very mild and is conducive to year-round outdoor activities.  The average high temperature in the summer is in the mid-80's, and the average high in the winter is in the upper 50's.  The weather, proximity to the beaches, and coastal lifestyle makes these communities a great place to call home.
